Election Fever
Parliament was dissolved at the beginning of this week, meaning election fever is hotting up. With last weeks live TV debate kicking of the season, and another one with all 7 parties set for this evening, it's almost time to decide who gets your vote.
So, who are this years main parties, and what do they stand for?
1. Conservative Party
They are a centre right party, known as the tories, and currently the largest single party in the UK parliament. David Cameron is at their head, and they are determined to keep him as our Prime Minister. In 2010 they formed a coalition with the Liberal Democrats so that the combined parties had overall majority and they could take government.
Their slogan this year? Strong Leadership. A Clear Economic Plan. A Better, More Secure Future.

2. Labour Party
The Labour Party are the second biggest political party in the UK. They are a social democratic party with strong links to the Unions throughout the UK. They were in government most recently between 1997 and 2010, when they lost their majority after the conservatives and liberal democrats formed a coalition. Their current leader is Ed Miliband.
Their slogan this year? Changing Britain Together

3. Liberal Democrat Party
The Liberal Democrats formed a coalition with the Tories in the 2010 election, and their leader, Nick Clegg, is currently our Deputy Prime Minister. They are currently the third largest party in the UK, and are a social liberal party. They heavily support constitutional and electoral reform, progressive taxation, environmentalism, human rights laws and bank reform and civil liberties.

4. Green Party
The Green Party of England and Wales had 1 MP in the house of commons until it was dissolved on Monday. They had a huge surge of membership and popularity at the beginning of this year, and currently have 57'000 members. They not only heavily support environmental issues, but also communitarian economic policies. Their current leader is Natalie Bennet.

5. UK Independence Party
UKIP is a right wing party, lead by Nigel Farage. Until Monday they had 2 MPs in the houses of commons, and 24 MEPs in the European Parliament, making it the largest UK party in the European Parliament. The party is eurosceptic, and right-wing populist.

6. Scottish National Party
The Scottish National Party, or SNP, are a scottish nationalist and social democratic party. Their leader is Nicola Sturgeon, who is also the First Minister of Scotland. They support and campaign for Scottish independence and is the largest political party in Scotland.

Plaid Cymru is a Welsh political part advocating the independence of Wales. It's current leader is Leanne Wood, and has a membership of around 8000. They are a left wing, social democratic party.
